Eshet Chayil

Submitted by rabbidanny on 25 February 2014 - 10:35pm

Below are two recordings of Eshet Chayil (concluding chapter of Proverbs written as an acrostic of the Aleph Bet) that we traditionally sing on Friday nights in honour of Jewish women. According to Jewish mystical tradition this poem is a reference to teh 'Shabbat queen', the soul mate of the Jewish people.

Most of us know this famous melody  which si sung at Chuppahs as well as at every Pinner Bat Mitzva.

But most are not aware of its orgin.

Madam Mayor, Alderman Toms, Councillors and honoured Harrow guests

Life is a Journey. This idea rings true for so many of us.

In fact it is one of the foundational ideas at the heart of Judaism and of all people of faith.

Life is a journey because life is meaningful and purposeful

Life is purposeful because we believe in a purposeful Creator who created this world as an expression of His love.

We do not believe that life is a random sequence of events of no intrinsic value.
